This is an image (one of about 50) that my son took. I was going to put up one of the ones he took of me straightening my skirt, fluffing my hair, fixing my bra, making a face or yelling at him to quit laughing and just take the stupid picture ... but decided on this one instead.BIOI am a freelance writer and published author, from Canada. I also putter with web design and fractals. My friends cringe when they open their e-mail and see an attachment with the subject line "What do you think of this one?"
I also do public speaking and have a book published, on bullying, which came out this year. I speak in schools and for different organizations about bullying and writing and it's pretty time consuming but a lot of fun ... the kids are great. I also work for a major financial institution, I guess you could say in my spare time. :)
I have a website for the book, if anyone is interested in seeing what it's about ...

Amazingly funny and so true .... a confession - we [teachers, that is]do have a chuckle or two at "News" items [we don't have posh words like Journal here in the UK]. But it's a sympathetic chortle - because we've seen what our own kids write about us eg "my dad hates pyjamas and my mum's glad because it's one less thing to wash" in my daughter's News. How's that for killing two birds with one stone? There's only one thing funnier than News ... absence notes from parents, but that's another story. Fabulously entertaining piece, my friend. It read it twice ... and laughed BOTH times!

A great piece of prose. I loved reading it. But, being a grandmother now, I am not in favor of this journal writing in schools. I can see you found wonderful heartwarming items from your sons journal, but I am just suspicious enough to disapprove of teachers having access to family affairs. Thanks for sharing.

As always, you weave your writing with the fabric of life's more poignant and hilarious truths. I hope you give your writing the attention it deserves because your talent is special. And I shall see you henceforth as a green dragon, thanks to good bloke Andy's genius. Bravi both!!!!

PAT .... this is a wonderful look at 'life' .... funny, poignant, truthful, and accurate as heck .... the art work (hobbit) is top notch .... you have an amazing grasp on the world, that enables you to write what you 'feel'.... your 'talent' is beyond questioning by any reasonable, objective person .... but, it is your 'heart' that allows you to have 'something' to write that well! .... brian .... VOTE ENCORE!!!

Oh Pat! I remember those days with my Daughter, lol! I think just the fact that you read his journal makes you a most caring and interested parent. Not a fault but a blessing! :) V Love the dragon image too! Going to look at his other work :)

I feel so lucky to have come across this piece. Excellently tugs the parent heart. I was painfully shy as a young parent and my creative son told his entire class of the weekend camping trip featuring his dad leaving the camper in his underpants to yell at "turkeys" on motorcycles. See? I haven't forgotten even at my aged condition. Thank you for sharing!

I had tears in my eyes when reading this, merely 'cause you put the words so that I felt many familiar feelings, but also because of your warm way of handling the subject.

Cute and enjoyable story regarding your Son's school journal and you reactions! Thanks for sharing! Bravo! BTW, Your a great Mom & parent! I wonder how many are out there that would not read their kids school work or even care what it might say!

Pat - This has to be the best written piece I've ever read. And, I'm not the only one who thinks so - I see roadrunner69 above thinks so, also. VOTE.
