Description

The kids are down for their nap, The babysitter is on her way, She's dressed and ready for her date with her husband and for once she finds herself with a few moments with nothing nagging at her. If only for a few minutes, she stands in a wonderfully quiet home gazing at a beautiful sunset. Ah... if only it could last longer than it does, but the evening out should be a nice change too. This image started the the FABULOUS Freebie Archive CD I just received from Sam's 3D and then progressed into a study in simulated radiosity (or something similar). As it all came together, I loved the scene and the look of the sunlight hitting the wall, but I knew it needed that reflected glow that programs like Vue really aren't made for. Mini-tutorial: For the back of the room, I placed a white light with a softness of 50 and a power of 15 directly between the camera and the brightest area on the wall and just out into the room slightly further than the face of the grandfather clock. I almost forgot, I also set the shdows on these lights to 30% or less. I then put another light with a softness of 50 and a power of 5 barely in front of her face and another one (bright red) with softness of 50 and power of 5 just in front of the red of her dress. This gives the illusion of light bouncing off the back wall and her face and dress and illuminating the surrounding room. I'm sure there are other ways to achieve this effect and probably even better ways, but that is how I did it. Other methods are welcome in the comments. Credits: Figure from Poser, Rendered in Vue 4 on a Mac; minor post-work in PS7; The dress is Uthena's Dress http://wynterfyr.bizland.com/conforming.html (could not find author's site but I found it here). It should also be in the Rosity Free Stuff. The scene outside is all from standard Vue with my textures; Major thanks goes to SAM'S 3D :-) The room and all the objects in it are from the Freebie Archive CD I purchased from their web site: www.sams3d.com Their models are all top notch and excellently textured! Comments and suggestions always welcome.

Without your excellent narrative this pic creates many many mental images! With it it comes to life. A very soothing and thought provoking picture... well done!

Thank you SO MUCH for the tutorial comments. They helped a lot, especially since I'm just learning the subtle power available in those lighting controls in VUE. And the image is great, of course! But so is the text. It really sets the scene and enhances the mood.
