Description
Final image of my little series. This one shows an old idea of a station that has an eco-system on the inner surface of the cylinder.
I've been trying to find the original picture I based on. As has been mentioned, Greg Bear and Clark have both created similar worlds. But I saw the concept first in a science book as a child.
I think I'm done with this unless I come up with something spectaclier to do with it.

oooo.... Awesome. Yeah, I like this one best. More believable. And I like that it goes off into the unseeable distance in that bright light. No telling how big this thing is. Very excellent construction and rendering.

This is really cool. Can't figure out if I am viewing it horizontally or it is vertical? Either way.... VERY COOL. The lighting and texturing is way cool.

AH, well gravity is a strange thing and in this case works in at least two directions. The inner surface (stops the water falling) and probably in the central column they have gravity working a different way. Thanks for the comments. Always appreciated.

YES!!!!!! I know of that VERY picture!!!! I saw it in a science book when I was about 12 yrs. old! Can't recall the book for sure, but it may come to me later. Something about future space colonization in Earths orbit. OH, Fantastic image by the way and cool concept too!

Outstanding work ! I beleive this is what was called an "O'Neil" colony, after the late Gerard O'Neil,.....I could be wrong though.

Sackrat!! AHA! You provided the key. I did a search of Gerard O'Neil and linked to www.ssi.org and they have pictures of Island One which, although not the picture I remember, are very close.

The concept beguiles and enthralls, nice clean execution, strength through perspective and POV, the texture and MAT on the terrain is perfect for this application (save it in case you ever do the Dover Cliffs), and perhaps a nice touch of post too. Damn fine job! Easily surpassing the others. One single question, was it done with mirrors? (PS, - V - )

I was wondering why they would have a pipeline in a cave, and then saw the water. what a clever idea, not your usual underwater scene. who would live here? not fish people i think, but then would people need a dry space under water? in the interests of realism my answer would be that perhaps it's easier to grow food outside and the planet has no surface land mass. the gravity thing would be caused by the pipe structure turning. still, despite all that rambling i do love this picture. very well done.
