Description

This is the left part of the fresco triptych painted by Galileo Chini on the wall of the main hall, as seen from the upper floor. The three parts are supposed to be seen as a whole, but of course the size does not allow for them to be shown together here. You can see almost all of them together (in spite of a column) in the picture of yesterday, which you shold look at first. The scene shows what looks like a Gynaeceum, a place where only females are allowed in, although there is the presence of one male, but he's very young and therefore probably admitted as a child. It is a bath scene, where a woman gets out of the bath room and is welcomed by her handmaids, and by other girls who bring exotic gifts. The woman is probably Venus herself, or at least a queen or princess. This left part shows girls bringing flower hommages and waving respectful salutation. The most curious gift is the one brought by the young girl: it is a couple of antelopes, which are to enhance the exotic feel. This is in accordance with the taste of the time (early 20th. century) for the exotic element, perceived as an element of unusual luxury. It is also harmonious to the somehow oriental feel of the whole building, determined by Chini's long stay in Thailand. The posing of the figures themselves recall the friezes seen in many oriental temples. The two women at left hold what looks like abundance horns; one is full of flowers, the other one, hard to say, as the decorative lines become easily very abstract, but there is something which looks like a bird's head. Note that the triptych is arranged to replicate exactly the placement of columns and opening in the upper floor. This in order to complete the round of columns with an imaginary space, in which the figures live (refer to the picture of yesterday). The feeling is enhanced strategically by Chini, who makes two characters look straight towards us, especially the young girl, whose pose will be somehow mirrored by the little boy in the right part. The picture was necessarily taken with an ISO of 1600, so you'll excuse if the colours and details are not as dense as they cold have been with a 100 ISO. But the original has pale colors anyway, so the limitation should not be too serious. Thanks for viewing:-) Tomorrow I'll post the middle part.

Considering the 1600 ISO, the shot is remarkably free of obvious or distracting grain. Really enjoyable art and expertly captured Orio! :)

Technically very well done. Why ISO 1600? Didn't they allow you a tripod in there? Still wonderful work :-)

This art deco theme is incredibly detailed. I think the other cornucopia contains fruit which is a recurring theme in art deco -- flowers and fruit. The colors are glorious, even in their pastels and the design on the floor of the frescoe is very Egyptian although stylized, with the lotus configuration.
