"Well, we've got 'Egg, Bacon & S.P.A.M.'..."
Well, what do you know, it looks like the Food Logistics Operations (F.L.O.) robot from my online strip "Freighter Tails" has slipped through a dimensional rift only to irritate yet another felinoid officer. This was a test of Davo's Sci-Fi Construction Set offered through DAZ3D and his own site, BeyondBent.com. His floor gratings gave me the opportunity to render of those now rather cliched "lit from below, through the grating" shots.
For giggles, I tossed in a model of my own making, a robotic waitress. Friends have endearingly kidded "she" looks like the "love child" of Robbie The Robot and Rosie from the "Jetsons". I modeled F.L.O. in TrueSpace and in a recent experiment, I optimized the mesh in UV Mapper Pro and imported it into Poser. I was shocked. It retained all of its original mapping coordinates. The only downside, it's a static mesh. I can't pivot the dome or the "ball in socket" arms. But for many shots it works well enough.
Why "S.P.A.M." and not "spam"? S.P.A.M. in this case stands for "Scientically Produced Animal Meat", a running gag in Scott Kellogg's "21st Century Fox" (http://techfox.keenspace.com).
Sincerely,
Bill

Oh My God!!! Who let a Sirius Cybernetics Corporation android loose on that ship ? Let's hope 'She' doesn't have a G.P.P. (Genuine People Personality) Module. Oh well looks like Mia will have to 'Share And Enjoy' the experience with the crew. BTW - Cool pic.

Awesome!!! And great ref!!! Love the lighting!!!

Oh, F.L.O. most definitely has what in the Douglas Adams Hitchhiker universe would be considered a G.P.P. Imagine the late Selma Diamond from "Night Court" doing her voice. For a rundown on the character, take a look at my gallery image titled "Strip # 15". BTW, thanks for the kind words, guys! Sincerely, Bill

If you want F.L.O. posable in Poser, you need only ask, Bill. I could have her doing the twist-and-shout inside of an hour.

Great pic ..I love F.L.O. I see you are an old school SciFi. Do you do the Who too? ;-) ~M_A~ (aka Nyssa of Trakken, hehehe...)

Thanks DCm and a belated one to you too, MadALyice. Yes, I thoroughly enjoy the retro stylings of vintage sci-fi. I was "Lost in Space" at a very impressionable age and coveted Will's "pet" Robot. Since then, I learned of designer Robert Kinoshita's contributions to both "LiS" and "Forbidden Planet" as he conceived both Robot model B9 and Robby the Robot. I think both designs hold up very well, even today. It's too bad B9 was in a state of disrepair when George Lucas was directing the original "Star Wars". Since the production and B9 were both Fox properties, it would have been great homage to have seen the Robot within the Jawa sandcrawler. Oh well, a missed opportunity. Sincerely, Bill
