Creating pics with the sun in front is always a bit difficult. The sun is IMHO a bit too big and the surface is not to be seen. Hmm... Maybe a different sun position would help here. :-) Go on with your pics!

OTOH, I don't feel like I'm losing too much surface detail, despite a monitor thats known to have "issues" with losing detail in lower-contrast areas. Nor do I think the sun is too large. I might copy the terrain file and see what some glaciation would do to the hills, but as a jumping-off point for another image, I like this one as it is.

I like it, although the Sun does seem too big for a place on earth. But no one said it was Earth... You might wnt to consider adding a shore line, or an Ice shelf via the Water Works Plugin.
