Description
It's a literary reference; the genre is historical fantasy. Can anyone come up with the reference and the situation? (Lonotter, I'm pretty sure you've read it.)

Hmm...Brendan departing from Terra? The image is great, but I can't place the referance. Although thad does give me an idea for an image, which I don't have any idea how to take on or that I doubt I'm capable of - the view from the standing stones on the Keltic throneworld (the name of which completely escapes me) with the Criosanna in the night sky.

Very good, got it in one! For the rest, the book is "The Deer's Cry", and the situation is, as lonotter guesses, Brendan departing from Terra in the starship named "Hui Corra". Other names I was considering for this one included "Ascension" and "Front Row Seats at the Nova"...
