Description

Here is a cutaway view of the central arcology of "Serenity City 3." This fity-story high, nine-sided building has industrial facilities in its three-tier base as well as underground. The outer portion of most of the structure is a tiered shell of apartments with each tier being two stories high. There are nine lower tiers and nine upper tiers separated by a sizeable gap created by nine hourglass-shaped columns. In this gap is a landscaped promenade with nine apses where cultural events are held. Supporting the entire building are eighteen thick angled ribs and nine nine-sided columns with landing pads for VTOL aircraft at their tops. The arcology is capped off with ring containing water tanks and HVAC equipment. A large opening in the center allows sunlight to get into the sizable atrium where a multi-faith house of worship sits atop a tall nine-sided platform. The platform houses governmental offices, a hospital, education and research facilities, and a market. Nine pedestrian bridges extend from the promenade to the temple. This is the final image of the "Serenity Cities" series to be posted on Renderosity. Viewers interested in seeing the six other images associated with this project are invited to visit the "Serenity Cities" gallery on my personal website: www.dcmstarships.com.

I greatly enjoyed your series, David. It's very interesting to see your vision of the future. I'm going to check out your other images at your site, too. :)

The arcology concept was invented by Italian architect Paolo Soleri. Perhaps his most famous collection of arcologies is from his book "Arcology: City in the Image of Man" printed I think by MIT Press in 1969. I believe his website is something like www.acrosanti.org.
