Description

Deep Space Explorer "Inquiry" was one of the largest Human exploration vessels ever built by the Interstellar Exploration Corps. This roughly 1000 meter long vessel served during the late 2nd Era of Human star-faring travel. While primarily a ship of long-range, long-term research, "Inquiry" was well armed for its size with four energy beam channelers, eight energy bolt launchers and sixteen manipulation beam quad arrays. The manipulation beam arrays fired rapidly alternating attraction and repulusion beams that of rapidly shook their targets. Assisting the titanic vessel in its duties were four smaller starships, usually two Deep Space Scouts and two Deep Space Guardians. A total of twenty-four "Inquiry" Class Deep Space Explorers were constructed and most had long and productive careers. Deep Space Explorer "Inquiry" is the first project of a major website overhaul I have been working on over the summer of 2004. The website update includes a new science fiction background for my 3D CGI designs, the "Fellowship of Star-Faring Sentients" universe. The first stage of my website rebuild should be posted in early September 2004. Interested viewers are invited to visit my site: www.dcmstarships.com. Deep Space Explorer "Inquiry" was modeled and rendered using TrueSpace 6.6 over the summer of 2004. The textures used came from a variety of sources including a Hubble Space Telescope website, Marlin's Amazing Sci-Fi textures, Jerry Westfall, and P. Bourke as well as Renderosity artists Eromanric and Django. I also used a texture I custom made for an earlier 3D CGI project, "Affirmation Station." Running lights were added using Universe Image Creator 1.63. The fading banner was added using CorelDraw 12. The design for Deep Space Explorer "Inquiry" is a tribute to my two all-time favorite speculative spaceship designers, Robert McCall and Chris Foss. The McCall influence is most pronounced on the front of the vessel and the Foss influence is most evident on the back.
