Description

'Hmmm, where am I now?', I ask myself while looking on the topographic map. 'Perhaps these trees are here', pointing to a spot on the map, 'that must be the south and those rocky area's are of course here.... But what's that incline there? Hey, no, that cannot be this track! Would it be the other or....' Etc. I got lost in the middle of nowhere. Trying to find my way back - not all area's were covered with snow so I could not find my footprints back - I must have diverged and I do not recognize the place where I should have been before. Going down, I slide down (on purpose) on a steep incline running to a tree that will stop me. Boff! There I am! And now? Looking down I see a precipice I can't pass. I can't go back, too steep! 'Oh boy, I'm in deep trouble now!' Panic! I'm stuck! I don't even know where I am! It's about 13.30 and I realize I'm disoriented and hungry. Time for a break to think about what to do now. The thought appears in my mind I have to go on, with these biblical words, 'and if I perish, I perish' (Esther 4:16). I sit down, take my lunchbox and take my bible that I have taken with me on this occasion. I'm perplexed my bible falls open at once exactly on the book of Esther, chapter 4 (no folded pages or anything like that). Emotionally exhausted I weep a little and start to read this passage. I feel encouraged by this blink of Gods eye, letting me know He's with me. I pray to get me out of here and to praise His name for doing that, and I eat my lunch while I look around to get out of here. To my great surprise I find a place where I can go down, like stairs made of rocks! As in a dream I go down and find myself back on the track and I see the markings again! *siiiiigh* It takes little time to find out where I am on the map and going from mark to mark, watching any iny tiny little curve in the path on the map (those Swiss maps are very detailed!) I can go on and finally go down back into the valley. Guided by God. In thankfulness I decide to share this with anyone who wants to hear it.
  • With these experiencese I learnt these lessons for hiking in the mountains:
  • never leave the track unless you know the landscape thoroughly, and go back if you do not know where the track continues
  • early spring means usually there's a lot of snow, especially on north slopes and areas where the sun shines little
  • take care for walking with a good map
  • take enough food, water and clothing with you (the weather condition can change very rapidly in the mountains, sometimes very unexpectedly with fast dropping temperatures)
  • tell people where you plan to go and how late you'll be back
  • take means of communication with you to send emergency signals (I've always a whistle (really! :) and now of course also a GSM)
The shot here shows the way I've come down right to the track, not so very clear perhaps, but for me a very valuable way, because if it weren't there I could not have shared this stuff here :) Enjoy your Sunday! Yes I know, inner roads are like tracks, not easy to follow sometimes, and this synchronistic even with your bible has make his job to take you on your right way, many things to learn about such events. Great story and pleasant naration and the shot is really impressive ! Thanks JC. V

A strong image - and a tough story behind it.
God is always there and helps the ones who are seeking his guidance - whether they are christians, jews or muslim - many people who are in trouble are seeking his help - once they are rescued they forget because they did not see an angel or a hand coming out of the clouds. As if God would only be able to do the wonders of the prophets. God has created all we see and he is out of our imagination and time.
You encountered his will and you are believer - and I am glad to 'see' you back home - safe!

What a scary experience you had!!! Got goosebumps when you said how your Bible opened up to Esther Chapter 4!!! The Lord was with you and showed you the way down!!! He went down with you every step of the way!!!! I have experienced so many miracles in my life, and sometimes I forget to lean on the Lord. It's hard sometimes, you know. But we have to trust that he will get us through the hard times, when we're lost, and when we can't find our way. Sometime we feel so scared and alone, and we just have to remember we're not. I need to start reading my Bible more. Don't do enough of that these days. Thank you for sharing this!!! and the photo is wonderful too!!!! again, i love how it has a painted feel to it!!!
