Description

It looks like a rainbow in the sky and is (like the rainbow) a refraction effect. But no raindrops are producing a Cicumzenithal Arc. This Haloeffect is caused by flat, sixsided ice crystalls. It always surrounds the zenith and just can be seen if the sun is lower then 32

Beautiful shot, not so easy to capture! It took some effort, but finally I found http://www.sundog.clara.co.uk/resource/indx.htm where lots of these phenomenons are explained.

I have never seen one of these before. I've witnessed double rainbows, and aurora borealis, but not this. Thanks for sharing!
