Description

I completely rebuilt the central control console of the Dart last night, after comments regarding an overproliferation of dials and readouts, and influenced by correspondence with an old friend who is now a professional automotive designer; unfortunately, my skills are not yet up to par with my imagination, but I'm closing the gap. :-)

I'm still struggling with surfaces; I have yet to be able to find or create a decent texture that even approximates brushed aluminum. I am pretty happy with the way the procedural bump map on the floor worked out, though ;-).

All Lightwave, all me. Although obviously influenced by current automotive concepts, this is a small spacecraft, flown with a joystick that can be used by either of the two occupants, while computer functions can be controlled with the central knob, as in current German sport sedans; in 200 years, even this will be retro, no doubt.

I kind of liked all the other instruments, impracticle as they were, this looks cool too though.

Ideally, each sides' main computer readout is a virtual touchscreen anyway, right? So that any number of controls and layout could be brought up and organized as needed? That kind of technology is available NOW (even if it wasn't well depicted in Kirk's show) and was used constantly in NextGen. And let's not forget the civilian equivalent of Majel Barrett's voice in a civilian voice-responding computer system. Brushed aluminum is generally anisotropic. I don't have one, but have seen good procedurals for it -- nowhere you could get to it though, sorry. I'm sure it's out there.

It's a real good idea, i am a beginner so i am not able to do this (I hope someday I can :P). But I have the feling if I look at the picture that there is a big space between the place where you sit in the chair and the front window. But it's a realy good desing, keep up the work, can't wait to see a next picture of you work.
