Description

This Hornet-hoverfly is the biggest hoverfly in Europe. Maybe she's even the biggest-one in the world, dunno? She does a good mimic-job on the largest wasp of Europe! She has even coloured wings like the Hornet. If she flies she tries to produce the same buzzing noise. Although her frightening size of 2 to 2.5 cm., she is quite harmless as you can see on the photo :) PapaGuru.

Fabulous shots Ric, I did'nt know there were so big species. I'm fascinated by hoverflys, I gonna say something crazy (who knows) but they look like a very evoluted specie to me. I discover since I do macro, the perfection of wings of insects, perfect flying machines. As ever V :)
