Description

We adopted Jax when he was a year old. He had been brought up in a dysfunctional environment ... spent most of his life in a cage. When we brought him home, it took three days just for him to be comfortable coming out of his kennel. Slowly, but surely, he became part of the family, and got comfortable with our other Sheltie, Abigail. Although he remained shy and a bit nervous, he bonded very closely with me, and would never leave my side. He even had his own pillow on my bed. :-) Jax had the softest fur of any Sheltie I had. We went on to get two more Shelties, and he was naturally the leader of the "pack." :-) Thursday morning, Jax managed to get out of our fence in the backyard ... the gate had not been latched securely, and he slipped through. Something must have gotten his attention across the road, and he was hit by a car right in front of our house. He did not suffer ... he was small, only 23 lbs. at best, and the impact had to have killed him instantly. A police officer had taken him, before I even got a chance to see him ... for that, I am thankful ... I only want to remember him as he was ... beautiful, loyal, a joy to play with and always the happiest to see me when I came home with licks and kisses. I will miss him so much.

So sorry to hear this. We had a cat put to sleep, by a very insensative vet as what we heard in his final moment from the back was not comforting, on Father's Day and the pain is still very much there. I know you are hurting. Take care.

Losing one of our animal friends does leave such a void. My heart still aches after 3 years of losing my Barney. He sure was a pretty dog.

Oh hon! I am so sorry. Losing a pet is like losing a member of our family, one of our children. He was a beautiful soul! I lost a full size collie a few years back in the same way. It truly is heartbreaking. Kiss your other dogs more for Jax. {{{hugs, Rhi}}}

I am very sorry for your loss,.......I have had to see two dear friends(cats)put down,..........but this was in extreme old age. To paraphrase the words of Abraham Lincoln,....."I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost",.............Jax was avery handsome boy. Know that you have the heartfelt sympathy of all in this community,........sackrat.

OMG Rhi I'm crying with you. I had a collie once and loved him so much I never thought I could love another dog. Then Oscar came into our lives 3 years ago, and he's just overwhelming. When he goes (I hope a VERY long time from now), it will destroy me, this I know. I feel every ounce of pain with you and cannot express the depth of my grief (despite my ramblings here). I am truly and so so sorry, hon. :(

I join everyone else with my tears for you and your loss, Rhi. I'm so deeply, deeply sorry to hear about your baby, and know the pain of what it is to lose a member of the family like that. I only pray that the fond memories you have of the time spent with Jax will help ease your pain a little, as well as the knowledge that you gave him so much love and such a happy home. Bless you, my friend. (((HUGS)))

The loss of a loving friend like Jax certainly does make itself felt. I went through four years of military service and did some of the hardest, most emotionally trying things I had ever experienced. And when I had to return home to put my old golden retriever down (He was suffering from old age), I freely admit I wailed like a child. I loved that dog. I feel for your loss and wish you the best.

This is such a loving tribute and brought tears to my eyes at your loss. Animals are our guardian angels and when one slips through and away, we feel a great loss. Truly a beauty!

Isn't it funny that the love of an animal can change our lives, make us feel purposeful and special? We always think that we are good for them, and we are, but in a much bigger way they are good for us. The simple love and trust they give is an unbeliveable gift that has been bestowed only on the persons that are most important to them. Jax was so lucky to have someone in his life that cared so deeply for him. I am so sad for you and Jax, and although I have never had to endure this pain, I can most certainly imagine it. Please put your mind to rest and your heart at ease, for most assuredly, Jax is in a happy place where he can romp and play. My thoughts are with you both ~ Cindy

Awww :-( This is both a happy and sad story... The first part talks a lot about the ultra magical and sweet feelings you have inside and about the fantastic person I'm sure you are... Congratulations! you should be proud of what you did with Jax, I'm sure he was the most happy dog during the time he spent with you :-) I know his loss hurts and the emptiness he left is big... but you should know that wherever he is now, he's saying "Thank you for taking care of me while I was with you" :-) Big Big Hugs to you Lady Rhi

Oh Rhi, I am so sorry. I lost Savannah in much the same way 4 years ago. She was still alive when we got to her, so we to had see her before I signed her redemption paperwork, and had her put to sleep (which didn't feel very redeeming). She would never have recovered. The girls and I fell to pieces right there at the vet-ER. I am so glad you didn't have to see Jax that way. He is a such a gorgeous creature, it really is best that you remember him that way. we had made a plaster mold of her paw print one summer afternoon, and I found again it about a year after she had passed away, and took it to have it bronzed. The girls wrote a poem about her, and its now engraved, and hanging in our family room. I hope your pain is eased quickly, and you find peace in knowing that what life he had with you was full of love and companionship. XOXO Jane.
