Description
George Rifley was one of my old flying buddys and had a long and exciting career in avation he flew the airmail in Alaska, flew chickel(sp) out of S Americal for Wigley one of the main ingrediences in his gum. He was an instructer in WW2 for the B26 Bomber it was known at that time as the widow maker. The saying at that time was "one a day in Tampa Bay" in a turn if the pilot raised the nose ever so little it would roll over on its back and it could not be recovered. Rif because of his experence knew that if the wing were a bit longer that would solve the problem. He got in touch with Bowing(sp) the manufacture of the aircraft and told them what was causing the problim. Bowing engneers deceided to add 3ft. to each wing and that solved cured the trouble. The B26 turned out to be the best and fastest low altitud bomber the alies had. In my opinion Rif was one of the greatest pilots in early avation. Notice the number of the licence, and also notice the name of the person that signed it.
