8 disappearances in 5 days and all from the same location, the spillway at the east end of the industrial zone. Something strange was going on and it wasn't long before my partner and I were wandering around the storm drains under the city. We had been following one of the branches from the main drain when we came to a maintenance bay. Here, the water was channeled through a trough about 5 feet wide and 6 feet deep. A work area, 12 feet long and 10 feet wide spread out to our left. Along the left wall telephone and power cables ran into and out of a series of junction boxes. At the upper end of the trough, a large squared grating covered the drain to trap the larger items of trash and refuse which washed through the drainage system. A scraping sound, at the drain, drew our attention. We turned our flashlights on the grating. At first, I thought we had discovered a nest of snakes, then I saw the eyes. Big, flat, green, glowing eyes in the dark depths of the drain. Those eyes! Glowing green but flat, dead, and evil. I didn't know what it was and we didn't wait around to find out. We'll be going back, but better prepared. Until then, I just can't get those eyes and serpentine tentacles out of my mind.
