Me and my beloved sailor...never so far apart....never so close.

Although I've been a member here a long time, I have had little opportunity these past few years to savor the joy of posting my art and commenting on the work of those I admire and have had a friendship with. Family and medical has taken precedence in my life, even to the point of not being able to sit long enough at a computer to work. So now that things are looking a bit brighter and I am feeling better, I hope to once again post and comment! I have so missed this circle of talented people with their warmth of soul and passion of art. -- Feb. 22 ' 08

a very nice reflective image! I hope her first day at school was 'tolerable' and that everyone will dry up their eyes! :)

The picture & the story and absolutely so great , I got a tear in my eye looking at your baby granddaughter reading, like the adults do and I had the most caring & sad feelings when my baby left her home the first time when she started her school. All we can do is to hope and pray that the road is not too bumpy for all those innocent little people, who honestly look for the right and wrong and start their off-home education this Autumn.

well isn't she precious. and yes so few learn what was given freely years ago. no it is hard to find teachers who honestly care, and a safe enviroment for the child of today to grow and learn.

A most amusing little photograph. The first day of the new school year is always an emotionally fraught day, for children, families and schools alike. Some of the interaction as you so rightly observe will be not what we would ideally plan. Nor has it ever been, even in my day so many years ago. However, we have no choice but to live the life we're in no matter how good or bad. There is only so much protection possible [or indeed desirable] and the best we can do is offer a decent set of values. "it is hard to find teachers who honestly care" - after thirty years of appointing teaching staff, I don't agree: most teachers DO care very much indeed - sometimes more than families.

Yes, its wonderful that little Miss K is growing up, but you're right, some of the education our kids get we wish we could protect them from. I wish her great strength and character to fight against it!

My oldest starts highschool this year. When did he grow up? When did he become a man? I wanted to hold onto every moment but so many got away from me before I knew it. And I agree with Mike. The teachers do care ... and if not for the beaurocracies and red tape parents would believe it a lot more. I don't think we see half of the frustration a teacher has to go through ... and it's not because of the children. The children are why they stay. Great shot, Ramona.

She was a darling little baby....and yes, they do grow up too fast....it's like one day you are tucking them into their cribs, and the next they are graduating from high school or college...it all just goes by way too fast.

This sure brings back some memories. Some of my familys best times are spent going thru old pictures. It really seems to bring us closer together. I hope she has a great time in school but it can be a struggle. Ive a few disagreements with our school system.

Oh my gosh, have you ever taken me back in time with this picture and your commentary. My eldest grandchild started school last year and I could have sworn his Mom, and my daughter, only started school a little while ago herself. The time flies way too fast. I know your little grandbaby is going to be just fine in school and I trust she'll come away with many fine memories!

A lil darling! You're absolutely right with that title! So soon, too soon!

Oh, you captured the feelings of a grandparent perfectly in image and words. It is an amazing experience to watch the cycle of life reborn again in our children and grandchildren. :o) CC
