Description
Okay, anyone who makes a habit of looking at my stuff knows that I am an H.P.Lovecraft NUT! I've noticed a couple of people selling models in the Marketplace based on Lovecraft's works and I must say, most don't get much right when it comes to his descriptions. So I've decided to do something about this and make my own series of Lovecraft Mythos creatures.
This is the first and probably one of the toughest to do. It is a member of the "Elder Race" or "Old Ones" refered to in the Necronomicon. I won't bother with a transposition here of the description, I advise you to get hold of Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness" if you're interested in finding out what this mass of tubes and tendrils is meant to be.
I modelled the Old One in Lightwave and am getting closer to completion (about half way there approximately). I haven't attached the membranes to the wings yet so they just look like fat sausage arrays at the moment. Also the tentacles the Old One uses to manipulate objects are currently set at right angles ready to be rigged - so they look like spikey T.V. antennae.
The Elder isn't yet textured and the finer details are still missing, but if you read Lovecraft or perhaps play Call of Cthulhu, you might find my series interesting. Tell me what you think.

Great job. I must admit I could never get my head around the discription in the story. I just enjoyed the vague wierdness that my brain came up with.

Just ran into this. Mountains is my favorite Lovecraft piece, and The Old Ones are top on my list of creative creatures. I'm afraid that with my limited skills, the interpretations I've done of the City in Antarctica is pretty mediocre. You've captured the details of his description really well. I'm anxious to see the finished product! Nice work.
