Description

I don't understand why people scoff at Bryce. It isn't a "newb" product, and it can certainly perform at the same quality as many "higher end" rendering engines. It just takes a bit more work. Following this logic, it would seem like the people who use those 'easy realistic' rendering engines with Radiosity, GI, Final gathering, SSS, motion blur, are the ones who are using the "newb" product. This scene was created/rendered in bryce, post work/dof was done in photoshop to cut down on the render time. The specular hilights were painted on. It's nothing special, but for 25 minutes of work, it looks decent. I originally intended to replicate an image I saw of a... (I think it was 3ds Max although I could be wrong) render, I tried to duplicate the textures as best I could. Bryce's not amateur software, don't listen to what those hypocrites say.

Really! Bryce has an excellent render engine, if you take the time to set options...it's just slooooooooow! (And like you say...some things are just easier in post work) Great render!

Freaking beautiful. It's both familiar/recognizable and abstract all in one. Love that deep orange-ish color.

It not only compares to "high end" apps, I think it exceeds them. Great text, great image. Rock on!

Excellent work there Ornlu! My only crit is the reflections need to be blurred as well to match the DOF. Nicely done!

Yeah, unfortunately as I mentioned my post-bryce method of doing DOF can't achieve that. Which is rather unfortunate.

Great way to prove a great point! I must say I agree, I tried out 3DS Max and I actually prefered Bryce (and not just because it was cheaper).

Fantastic...especially like the postwork. Bryce has always been easily affordable and therefore has attracted a larger following which includes a higher number of newbees and casual users than the higher priced 3d software which some of the more serious enthusiasts of 3d have gravitated to. I have used Bryce since I became interested in 3d 5 or 6 years ago and find it to be an excellent program with the sophistication to produce high end renders right along with the higher priced and also many times overhipped programs. Your image is an excellent example of what Bryce is capable of producing when in the hands of a talented artist.

There aren't any newb products, just newb artists. Many are attracted to Bryce because it is approachable, and therefore Bryce gets a bad rap. I get tired of defending Bryce. It isn't perfect, but when handled correctly, can produce stunning and unique results. Excellent pic btw! ;-)
