Description
This is a photo of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge, looking towards the Newcastle side of the Quayside. It's taken behind glass from the viewing platform of the Baltic Centre.
I've been trying for weeks to get onto the viewing platform, but it's closed when it's raining, and as it seems to have rained all summer in the north-east of England, it's not been easy! Finally, this morning I managed to get there before the rain set in again.
There are great views along the River Tyne. The building you see through the eye of the bridge is Newcastle Law Court.

When i saw the thumbnail, I thought it was a cool render from one of the fancy 3D proggies. Now that i see its a real bridge, I'm amazed. The POV is perfect..captures loads of detail. The bridge looks like it hinged...does it tilt? Excellent photo! :)

As someone else who lives in Newcastle, I can confirm it really does look as good as this - and yes, it rotates around around an axis (situated where the yellow bits are on either side) to allow ships through.

What a fantastic example of modern technology and engineering! It's great to see it from the other side, Gordon. I guess that is the old Tyne Bridge in the top left; great capture and perspective with the clouds reflected in the river. Congratulations!
