Description

I know, the common name for the male is a contradiction. Contrary to popular belief, the male Black Widow is rarely eaten after copulation with the Female. This is the first time I have ever seen the male of the species. The little bugger got away after only 6 shots. He got out of my sight through the lens and was crawling towards me so I jumped out of the way and lost him in a crack. I didn't want to come in contact with this thing even though I know it isn't poisonous like the female.

I must mantion that I did desaturate the background to bring out the red on the abdomen. I also did some blurring.

The spider is not poisonous and it was not in my house. It was outside so I trapped it in a bowl. It manage to crawl out of the bowl while I was taking shots.

Just a little too close for my liking. Not the sort of spider I normally find hiding under the rim of my toilet bowl thankfully! Great shot!

It's a male because it is considerably smaller than the female and it has markings on the back of the abdomen as opposed to the underside. The male has a few red markings while the female has only two - most of the time forming an hour-glass shape.
