This is an image (one of about 50) that my son took. I was going to put up one of the ones he took of me straightening my skirt, fluffing my hair, fixing my bra, making a face or yelling at him to quit laughing and just take the stupid picture ... but decided on this one instead.BIOI am a freelance writer and published author, from Canada. I also putter with web design and fractals. My friends cringe when they open their e-mail and see an attachment with the subject line "What do you think of this one?"
I also do public speaking and have a book published, on bullying, which came out this year. I speak in schools and for different organizations about bullying and writing and it's pretty time consuming but a lot of fun ... the kids are great. I also work for a major financial institution, I guess you could say in my spare time. :)
I have a website for the book, if anyone is interested in seeing what it's about ...

wonderful story and picture, what great adventures you had.

The photograph, in itself, is an adventure: it is so well composed that the eye [and the imagination] is guided via the clump of greater reedmace on through the wavelets and among the reed beds. The accompanying tale of teenage endeavour is a most delightful and entertaining bonus. Excellent work throughout, my friend. v

ahhh, that image brings back so many memories. The story even more, spent many a day on the bayou in a confiscated piece of junk we found after one of the many floods. Bailing water, flipping it over, climbing back in and rooting our way over the mud banks. Only time we got carefull in that old piece of junk is when we were sneaking onto the grumpy old farts land that had the crappy fishing hole. lol, he ran us off more times than the law allows. Too funny I ended up coaching his grandson and made a few changes in his delivery (he was a pitcher) he got as far as the Astros AA farm club.

I'm so glad you posted this pic! After seeing it I was so in love with this spot and still intend for us to have midnight margueritas on the shore!!! ;)

I felt pangs for many years ago as I read these heart-beating words. pscott is a smart writer because one is always transformed in some resonant way before one knows it's been done. the photo has nailed the atmosphere of a place where one feels spiritually naked. it might be a warm day or it might be a cold day. no matter, the chill one feels is a chill like no other. Water like this always calls the shot. Thank you, you special creative person. I am deeply moved again by your work.

As I stare at this beautifully captured image I can hear the eerie laughter of loons and smell the air... a hint of sweetness laced with the musk of reedy shoreline... and your words have me tumbling back in time and into wonderful memories which were gathered in a place just like this. Thank you for the journey, Pat... :)

What a beautiful memory.... the story so compelling. I grew up in the city, but remember going to my grandmothers house and picking wild blueberries in the forests surrounding her home, eating more than what was put in the bucket. I now live in a rural area and your words described perfectly the silence except for the hum of insects..... I love it more than anything... your image and words touched me....
