Description

Xenodream, no pp, PS6 for frame Got the idea for this image by a piece of text i read by Douglas R. Hofstadter, when he was reflecting on "The riddle of the universe and it's solution", a story by Christopher Cherniak. "Our consious thoughts seem to come bubbling up from subterranean caverns of our mind, images flood into our mind's eye without our having any idea where they came from! Yet when we publish them, we expect that WE - not our subconscious structures - will get credit for our thoughts. This dichotomy of the creative self into a conscious part and an unconscious part is one of the most disturbing aspects of trying to understand the mind. If - as was just asserted - our best ideas come bubbling up as if from mysterious underground springs, then who really are we ? Where does the creative spirit really reside ? Is it by an act of WILL that we create, or are we just automata made out of biological hardware, from birth until death fooling ourselves through idle chatter into thinking that we have "free will" ? If we ARE fooling ourselves about all these matters, then whom - or what - are we fooling ?" Thank you so much for viewing and all of your comments. And if you came so far, for reading this puzzling text ;-)) Dirk

The shiny spheres are awesome! I don't think of them as coming from an inner well.. I think of them as existing at tiny points in the vast fractal space, we find them and coax them into beautiful presentations. we're fractal hunters..

Well...what an impressive piece to contemplate. I believe these thoughts that bubble up from subterranean caverns...these images that flood our minds eye are memories/teachings from lives past lived. The more creative the self the older the (soul)? which is in essence who we really are and this body is just the biological hardware that houses us. So...I love this piece, it's kind of the nuts and bolts of the creative source heh? Excellent design and reflections...love it. ;o)

I kind of believe in the automata theory. While I do believe we have a certain amount, not a whole lot, of free will, the universe seems to be basically predetermined by the physics that created it and the chemistry/biology that has evolved. In any case the ability to produce art of any sort is a very mysterious thing. Do all possess it? It certainly doesn't respect age, sex, or location barriers....I sure don't know. This is really a fantastic image, love the lighting and reflections. Those little screw type things floating around are some very interesting forms. Excellent work and a fascinating passage!

Yeah what valcali said. we are not out bodies, but the enrgy that holds the empty space between the atoms together, and freefill, of course we have, we decide our own fate, consciously or not =) excellent and very thought provoking image and words!!! ~V~

SUper spiral! I love the reflections, and the combo of shapes and color. The back texture is awesome. We are- at the very core, our spiritual selves..complete with personality and talents that were before we were..made mortal. We were created spiritually before we were created physically. With Wordsworth I believe "trailing clouds of glory do we come..from God who is our home." Excellent and thought-provoking work and words. Thanks, Dirk!

Ahh, but there's a bigger question: is an Elvis painting on velvet really art? grin j/k This is really a wonderful piece, just as contemplative as the narrative you put with it. Very thought-provoking.

What a discussion! And so interesting to see all of the different views. I believe that as pre-mortals we chose this life, the main path has already been determined. What we choose to learn from it is in our hands. Entertaining words to go with a likewise image!!

Wow! That's deep and really makes me think. Although, I have thought similary thoughts before. Excellent image to carry out this idea. My first thought was, yeah this looks like the inner chaos of my mind...lol but it is not chaos at all, but more like organized thoughts springing from a deep well. Thanks for this mind boggling piece Dirk. Excellent work!

Who can ever know who they really are ... the conscious mind is more of a brake on the subconscious. We are aware of very little in the universe and aware of our own thought processes only when they smack us round the face with a wet fish. You are what you is ... and thats all there is! (Quote from Frank Zappa) oops , Excellent image!
