Description

I am passionate about aviation art! Then I discovered that I could do it in 3D - I am in heaven. This is a straight render from RDS 5.5. The airplane was modeled entirely in RDS 5.5 almost exclusively using the spline modeler. All textures (which are hard to see in this evening shot) were rendered in Photoshop. This detailed model took about 150 hours to build. In this scene you see Captain Phil DeLong's Vought F4U-4 Corsair landing aboard the USS BAATAN (CVL-29). Captain DeLong is coming home from a sortie over Korea in early 1951. Mike http://www.delaflor.com

This is very well done! In Ray Dream? Wow. I never could produce this quality of pics with RDS.

yes, zorares, this was modeled in RDS 5.5. any 3D model just boils down to its parts. I broke it down, build it each part, and then put it back together. it just took patience.

Beautiful pic, and nice modeling job. I made an X-1 in RDS so I can appreciate the work you put into the Corsair.

Excellent piece of work, Mike! I am a WWII/Military Aviation buff myself and can appreciate the detail you have put into that Corsair. The question I have for you is: how do you model the prop spin/blur effect? I am still quite the rendering newbie, but I want to do some aviation renders and will need to get that prop spin effect down.

WOOOHOOO!!! My dad served aboard the Essex in Korea. They had F4U's and Skyraiders. Later they got F9F's. I am so impressed that you could build such a great model in Ray Dream. I could not make anything in Ray Dream. LOL VOTE

OK mike, Very nice. hey I bought your book! How about some close ups of the wing tips. I'm having a very hard time with mine. Better yet how about some tips on how to use the UV editor in Carrara? I'm trying to map a fueselage and am going no where fast with it.
