For me, art is a voyage of discovery. I am as surprised by the art I create as anyone else who views it. Though I constantly strive to improve my skills, I am much more interested in creating something new (and hopefully beautiful) under the sun than in craftsmanship. I feel that photography has superseded other forms of art when it comes to reproducing the external world -it is the interior landscape that I strive to explore and reveal.
BIO
Born in Paris, France in 1950. Moved to New York when I was 5 years old. From an early age, developed an (unhealthy? obsessive?) interest in fantasy, science fiction, surrealism and anything that was beautiful and mysterious. My parents called me "Jean de la Lune" because I was often distracted by things that they couldn't understand. Also had an aptitude for drawing from an early age, but never really pursued it seriously back then. Went away to college in 1967, at the time that the psychedelic zeitgeist was reaching critical mass & got swept up in the maelstrom. Ego disintegrated & a new one rose like a phoenix from the ashes. Began drawing & painting in a stream-of-consciousness mode, bypassing the rational mind. Fell in love, moved to Berkeley, California, and had a son. Took art classes (illustration, figure drawing, portraiture, color theory, etc.). In the late 70's, began playing with computers. Learned to program & wrote simple applications for generating visual patterns. Having no real aptitude for marketing my artwork, I instead embarked on a career in information technology, which lasted 22 years, at which time I quit (in May of 2003). My current incarnation as a digital artist began with the first release of Fractal Design Painter. I experienced a breakthrough with the first release of Bryce, which was the medium that enabled me to finally satisfy my creative impulses. I use many other supporting pieces of software (Amorphium, Poser, & several others), but they only provide me with input for Bryce. All of my images are rendered only in Bryce, with no post-processing at all. Each of them starts with a bare-bones idea or model or texture which I then attempt to allow to evolve in whatever direction "it" decides & which I have never been able to predict. I obsessively tweak shapes, colors, textures, & visual relationships until the image seems "right". If the final result is somewhat disturbing and disorienting, yet at the same time beautiful, then I have succeeded...

And you post it the day more records are made public of W's time in the national guard. Gee, he lost his pilot's license cuz he didn't show up to take the test. That's dedication and honor and character and a fine eye for detail, alright. Kldorman, here in Detroit, there are a great many people who used to live in Iraq. My friends from Iraq are overwhelmingly anti-bush. I'm also compelled to point out when the prez tried to congratulate the Iraqi men's soccer team as well as take credit for the soccer team altogether, the Iraqi team ~to a man~ told the president (and i'll paraphrase) to go suck wet farts out of dead pigeons. Islamic anti-american sentiment is growing at an exponential rate, and islamic nations are now sympathizing with extremist groups and providing support in ever growing numbers. Which is why W stubbornly keeps on the path that is responisible for the middle eastern anti american backlash. Before you say there already was an anti-american sentiment, I'll say it. It simply wasn't unified and consolidated. It's getting to be VERY unified and consolidated now. I guess W is a uniter, not a divider. Where before the debate in the middle east whether or not america was so bad, now the debate in the middle east asks: is america super evil or incredibly super evil? I don't like or appreciate a black and white perspective. To posit an absolute is to invite a world of problems. My sensibility comes from being perfectly ok with people wanting to pursue their own way of life, and believing that most people the world over are perfectly capable of holding divergent points of view and working them out and being able to see the worth in working things out. For instance, say, Germany is against America regarding Iraq it doesn't mean Germany is against America. I don't see the world in black in white. W does. To my way of thinking, living in a mindset of absolutes is not terribly realistic. If i ran my soccer team that way, my players would either suck or be superstars. Instead, i find their strengths and weaknesses, and change my tactics as they grow and learn. Because i wouldn't let this girl start last season, and this season i do start her, does that mean i'm a flip-flopper? But hey, i s'pose that's too subtle and nuanced and elitist for you. You may resume calling names and avoiding issues like "first president since herbert hoover to not create one single job in his first four years". I won't change, and my soccer team will continue to win and win and win. John Kerry was also a soccer star, and he's a hockey player. He won't run from a fight, hockey players don't do that. W golfs. I love hockey. I play hockey. I know hockey players. They don't leave you stranded in the corners. Golfers, they're in it for themselves. Be careful, eyeland, and keep your stick on the ice.

hmm freedom of expression, of course gop-hers would squeal. You are not the only one into politics this year people are registering to vote and people who havent voted in years are going to vote-- these are people who are NOT being counted by pollsters on either side- we can not stand back and watch the awol bush and his special interests ruin this country. Thanks for taking yours to the streets!

It's odd. I don't remember saying I will vote for Bush. I did state emphatetically that I will NOT vote for Kerry. Yet, time and again the judgement is made. All I am saying is look at the facts. Everyone has their favorite websites and references and everyone has books to back up what they say. Here's a novel idea, READ THE RECORDS OF THE SENATE AND THE HOUSE yourself. READ THE PATRIOT ACT yourself. Don't read the paraphrases and listen to the soundbites. Argue your "points of view" all you want. But when it comes down to it, we have to vote by what the record said. Or, at least that is what we should vote by. As for military service, my husband served honorably. I attempted to serve but got injured. Every one of my brother and sisters served or attempted to serve. Do they have perfect records? No. My husband has missed drills. My father took approved leave, and then some officer got mad and wrote him up saying it wasn't approved. This went on for a few months until the truth came out. But, if someone was to pick the report from the officer out of his records and not the full documentation of the whole event, it would make my father look horrendous. He wasn't and isn't and served honorably in Korea. Everyone only releases what makes them look good. EVERYONE. Quite frankly, the truth is somewhere in the middle of SwiftVets and Texans for Truth. I would gladly read through ALL the records if I could get them. Just as I read the bills and amendments and voting records. I'm not making my decision on Vietnam happenings and military records. I'm making my decision on John Kerry's record. Make all the conclusions you want about who I am voting for. To be quite honest, who I'm NOT voting for is the only thing I'm committed to. I'm still weighing my options as to who I'm voting for. I might write in Nader or Lieberman. I'm still going over Lieberman's record and reading up on Nader.

1st post) Totaly un-American, it's know Wonder we have Radical Dems trying to Divide our Nation in anyway they can and even if it means Destroying our beloved Nation in the Process just to get a demi in the office as Kidorman pointed out look at his real records Service and Sen. alike, by even thinking Kerry would lead our Country puts chills down my back.. He's the Puppet in this story I just want to know who is pulling the strings, for he cannot make a SOLID choice on any issue. Former Marine here and I support our Commander and Chief Persident Elect George Walker Bush!!. John Kerry is a Traitor to our Country and it's Service men & Women after coming back from his war time service, I wonder if the Kerry supporters even remember what was said by him at the time in history and at what cost to the U.S. as in relations with other Countries.. He played a Major role with Tainting our Soldiers and their famlies and still does to this day . I will not rank this post high or low for my message is good enuff, take it as you will, but all I ask is to open your eyes to the Real Truths before you act like a Terrorists ans burn our Flag & our Presidents likeness, again Un-American effort on your part shame on you and anyone that supports these kinds of acts ~Chris~ # 2) Funny how 9/11 doesnt play any weight in the debates here, hmmm do you think the lose of millions of jobs could have been in FACT do to the attack as America was so overcome with grief of what had happened? The stock market took a Huge hit as well as all small business owners for that matter in a result of lose of millions of jobs...The lose of so many lives had America at a stand still in more ways than one...or I guess I could lower my values and throw together a Kerry Bashing trailer tripper or even a Web-site or even a mock up of him shooting himself in the leg, falling on his face on a simple pass play,Wind surfing, the David Lettermen show driving on stage with his Military Jacket on a Harley Bike and the list goes on.. people dont seem to get it about Bush is when he had that flight suit on heck he was in a Jet for Christ sake that just landed on a Aircraft Carrier what would you have liked to see him in a business suit? The suit was not a Option he had to wear it period!!.. but I choose the ladder of the 2 and once again say do your research on Kerry and his track record in the Senate, Hence the Flip"Flop and of course other Countries want Kerry to win, reason being the US will be weaker if Kerry is running it or should I say trying to run it which wouldnt be the factor here, the fact is others in the Demi would run him also Hence the Puppet and who are really pulling the strings. Un-American to have our President set on fire with the American flag on his chest, as said before that's what the Terrorists do in the Middle East, i just hope your not some Uni-Bomber or something because this is the Mind thinking of one.. ~Chris~

4142, I find your flag-waving, pseudo-patriotic, "my country right or wrong" attitude very disturbing. I am neither a unibomber nor unAmerican. If you had bothered to read the text under the photo, you might have realized that "pants on fire" is a phrase from a childs rhyme about lying & has absolutely no violent intent. And since when did dissent become unAmerican? Fascist regimes like Nazi Germany & totalitarian regimes like the former Soviet Union didn't tolerate dissent - you probably would have been happier living under those governments. To quote Teddy Roosevelt, one of the last great REPUBLICAN presidents, "To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." So I suppose he was unAmerican too? kldorman, you mentioned that North Korea wants Kerry to win. This is a typical Bush supporters strategy - cherry pick the facts that favor your side out of context (as when Zell Miller recited the litany of weapons sytems that Kerry voted against while leaving out the fact that Cheney & McCain opposed the same systems). What you neglect to mention is that practically the entire world wants Kerry to win. Here's an excerpt from todays International Herald Tribune: "If the world could cast a vote in the United States presidential election, John Kerry would beat George W. Bush by a landslide, according to a poll released on Wednesday that is described as the largest sample of global opinion on the race. It is absolutely clear that John Kerry would win handily if the people of the world could vote, said Steve Kull, director of The Program on International Policy Attitudes of the University of Maryland, a co-sponsor of the survey. It is rather striking that just one in five people surveyed around the world support the re-election of President Bush. Of the 34,330 people older than 15 from all regions of the world the majority or plurality of people from 32 countries prefer Kerry to Bush. We found an unusually low level of support for U.S. foreign policy, Kull said. This runs in line with the trends from recent attitude surveys by the Pew Research Center and may have implications when U.S. wants to move forward on issues with its closest allies. Most traditional U.S. allies came out strongly favoring Kerry, while only those polled in Nigeria, Poland and the Philippines preferred Bush. Norway and Germany tied at 74 percent as the countries where those polled most strongly support Kerry. Canadians preferred Kerry by a ratio of 61 percent to 16 percent for Bush. With numbers this robust it would be difficult to conclude anything but a broad feeling of dissatisfaction with Bush and his foreign policy. Another pattern that became apparent in studying the data was that those people with high education and more income were more strongly in favor of Kerry, Kull added. The most likely common link is that those who have the most access to information tend to be more negative towards Bush than those with less access to information. Overall, only 20 percent of those surveyed supported Bush for a second term, while just under half support Kerry and one third did not express a preference. Polling among some traditional U.S. allies found strongly negative attitudes toward Bush, In Germany, France, Norway, Italy and the Netherlands, the portion polled as supporting Bush amounted to 14 percent or lower, while more than half in each country supported Kerry. In Britain, where Prince Minister Tony Blair has been the foreign leader most closely allied to U.S. policy in Iraq, those polled preferred Kerry by a margin of 30 percentage points. Of the 1,001 Britons polled by telephone across the country, 47 percent preferred Kerry, while 16 percent preferred Bush. Among the 12 countries that took part in the war in Iraq as what Bush has termed the coalition of the willing, only in the Philippines did the majority of those polled prefer Bush. More than half of those polled in seven coalition of the willing countries said that U.S. foreign policy was worse under Bush." Of course, we don't care what the rest of the world thinks, because we know better & we're better off going it alone, right?

Eyeland I'm from Australia. We Australians are one the very small yapping dogs barking from the shadow of the mighty American fight against terror. Now I'd just like to congratulate you on being a sound intelligent human. The same cannot be said for poor ole' 4142. I'd also like to add that I personally (and Australians generally) find 4142's blind patriotic blathering laughable and stupid.
