Description

In this view of the cemetery you see the mound and door for the 'groundskeeper', but this location in the cemetery was very active and very hostile in atmosphere. I steered clear of it for the first visit and concentrated on reading and verbally recording the headstones for background info. A third of the way through the oldest, I realized that in the first few decades of the 19th century, especially 1820-30, so many of them were young children/teens. At first I thought that an illness overtook the community wiping out the young and old, but the old survived! And so did the very young...only the pre-teens/teens seemed to die. I later checked out, or attempted to check out, public town records. Nothing came up regarding the death records because the town hall had burned down...however, I went to the historical society in Springfield, Mass.--my old tried and true hunting ground for information!

I've been to a plce in England with very old graveyard... imagine yourself the moonlight hit the tombstones... the wind wispers in your ears. I was too scared to shot a picture after feeling them. I didnot want to disturb.

Interesting and odd thing about the era...Older grave yards tell stories only the living can ponder. Great shot !

Awesome! The only thing I can honestly say I dislike about your photos and story is that I have to wait for the next one! LOL You have me so hooked on this series just as you did on the last one. This is so cool!
