Description

This has to be one of the most dramatic monuments I've ever seen on or off a battlefield. IIRC it's on Seminary Ridge very near the center of where "Pickett's Charge" set out from. This is an old photo, scanned to humongous size. I cleaned up every scratch and dust spec in the universe, it seems; concentrating on the statue grouping. Then I ran my usual intellihance settings and suddenly all the 'ignorable' dust specs got enhanced like you would not believe! out comes the smudge tool all over. I then outlined the statue group and cut it out of the picture. Then I ran the 3D filter on this cutout using a depth of 9 -- FAR in excess of what I usually use. Then I used the 3D filter at a depth of 3 on the rest of the image (trees, etc.) which is more in line with what I normally use. Then I pasted the statue group back in. What I was looking for was an effect that says: HEY! This is not a flat picture! It's a statue! Emphasis had to be on the four men frozen in time as they set out across a mile of open ground under continual bombardment. Also had to add a little depth to the background to say: Hey! real trees here! I like the way this print cleaned up to show the color of the bronze. Enjoy; thanks for viewing.

Brings you right there into the scene, in a time far away, but frozen for today. Excellent work. I had long-ago relatives in the Civil War, both sides. Civil war is not a pretty thing.

Sounds like you went to a lot of trouble, it was really worth it, excellent results. I agree with Glistens, it really brings you right into the scene.

Interesting effects. Thanks for sharing a picture from one of my favorite places on earth. I hope to go back to Gettysburg one day. But, I won't hang around Devil's Den after dusk. :)
