Description

Hehe, I've always wondered how easy it is to create a UFO "photo". I made the UFO out of a nurbs sphere, and an Image Based Light (using the background picture). Cheers

Let's see now, is it a UFO, Unidentifed Flying Object? It's flying, it's unidentifed, can't tell if it's Xindi, Vulcan, or Gorn, and it's an object. Yep, it's a UFO.

I got a reply from Cosmic Conspiracies: "Hi thanks for sending the picture looks like its been done in a paint package and imposed on to the background". Damn! I really thought it would fool them! Still, they are wrong about how it was done, anyway:)

Great picture - "real" ufo images are usually grainy and under (or over) exposed and generally not good examples of fine photography - this image, whilst good, is probably too good (in terms of graphic quality) for the conspiracy types :-). There is a slightly "superimposed" look to the ufo because it's rendered slightly more sharply than the background - IBL has matched the colour of light to the background but doesn't match the 'granularity' of the rendered ufo to the background picture. Also the shadows on the outhouse clearly show the light, though muted by cloud, is coming from a different direction than the light on the ufo - it's subtle but it's there. It's probably harder to convincingly fake a ufo picture than it is to actually photograph a ufo! For me it's the combination of the ufo with the outhouse that makes this a winning picture - nice one Joe.
