Description

Just a 'snapshot' image around halfway to the Minibrot which lies at E652. Not that artistic .....but as it took 2330 hours to render, it may just make the 'interesting' category ;)

Superb rendering, Rupert. It appears to be embossed in Pewter with great depth and play of light and shadow.

It shows a very interesting kind of symmetry. IMO you did a very good job.

Oh my, oh my, Rupert. That's just great. About 97 days to render; waiting for the final result for more as 3 month's. How could you be so patient?

This is an outstanding image. Wonderful embossed work. You must have had a separate computer to let this render on. Amazingly long render.

It's marvelous, Rupert! I've never even attempted to go that far into the set... The embossed effect is stunning!

Really impressive patience and outcome! What a magnificent lines of force revelation of the beauty of the fractal. I was playing around similarly with a portion of the Mandelbrot, but could not afford to tie my computer up for such a long time (gave it up after three days; though the result was interesting even after only a few percent rendering). Thanks for sharing the splendor of the fractal in its virtually native state! VOTE

The lighting and greyscale and 2330 hours (incredible) each contribute to the excellence of this beautiful, highly detailed design and image. WOW.

Unbelievable! Probably the most tactile, exotic fractal I've seen here to date. Great work, amazing patience. VOTE

Hi Rupert, what's about beaming some of your patience to me? What I like most about your work (apart from your unique style and love for details): you would never accept the 2nd best. This image is beautiful and it goes straight to the list of my alltime favorites :-)

Freaken cool embossed look and complex fractal design! 2330 HOURS???? That's almost a hundred days! As I looked at your gallery, with render times like that, no wonder your posts are far between. Awesome image!

What does E652 mean ?

feltens

6:04AM | Mon, 21 February 2005

As far as I know, it's a shorthand notation for the zoom factor: The final Minibrot (at the center of this image) will become visible with a zoom factor of 10 to the power of 652 (E standing for exponent; Zoom factor relative to the standard/regular/parent M-Set). Please correct me if I'm wrong... Really nice image, by the way.

Hi Martin, I should have wrote it as 1E+652, Ralph has given a good explanation, it is called Scientific Notation, an easy way of writing very large and small numbers. A deep zoom of say 1E+11 means a magnification of 100,000,000,000 that's a one followed by eleven noughts, so 1E+652 is a magnification of one followed by six hundred and fifty two noughts into an area of the Mandelbrot set. Do a search on "Scientific Notation" or try http://www.nyu.edu/pages/mathmol/textbook/scinot.html
