Description

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is a view (taken last Friday) through the Barbican Gateway of Lewes Castle, which is now in the care of Sussex Archaeological Society. Building of the castle, high on a spur of the South Downs, was begun in the 11th century. The magnificent barbican was added to the main gateway in the 14th century. Lewes is the county town of East Sussex, and is a wonderful place to visit, with lots of interesting buildings, shops and fabulous caf

Wonderful archicture, and with history that holds many secrets, one would think. Love to see these marvelous structures, as there are none in this country, so the shots of other lands always give me a sense of mystery. Thank you for sharing *V Lina
