Description

Well I seem to be having a real mind blank on fractal making last few months, so thought I'd try something new. So my first Terragen image any constructive critism appreciated, The surface material was downloaded from render its the free grass one, I just tweaked it a bit, mowed the lawn:) and added some more rocks. Can't work out how to break up the distinct straight line around the Tor, but im kind off getting used to it Also had to take into psp to adjust brightness/contrast In terragen it seemed a bit washed out couldnt work out how to improve upon that in terragen itself. Anyways thanks for looking :)

That line looks almost buggy to me, but check that one of the foliage layers' max height fuziness - if it's set all the way to the left, there's your problem - the pov you've chosen here drastically shows the end of terrain - watch for that; nice water, and the pov would be good, if it weren't for the fact that the mountain appears to have no back!

Surfaces, surfaces, surfaces. Add tons of surfaces to achieve realism! The more you add, the less likely you are to see the underlying surfaces, thats the hard part. Good first try!

This is a well done first trial. There are several tutorials for surface mapping. The best one that I know is by Martin Brunker (piet1). Go on with this - you are on the right way!! :-)

Cool terrain sculpting, Karen, and I like the rugged foreground surface. Great first TG image, and it's good to see you here!

Nice, first try, Karen. The pont of view is nice. I am not an expert, and learned the hard way to keep my target 'cone', within the terrain square. No cut off mountains. The water is very nice. I see you are using plugins. I try to do so, too, but my machine just freezes after a while, often even on a small terrain. One tip: the less water in your shot, the quicker the render time. Your grass is obviously determined by altitude, but did you want the divide so straight? I have never taken the time to master textures properly. Your first try is a lot better than mine was. Keep experimenting.

Hi, Stotty! Good to see you here! Excellent first image. For that straight line, you'll find that edges can be either fuzzy or sharp. You want to move the slider toward fuzzy. That's on each layer. Click on the name of the layer to get the dialog box. But you've already seen that.
