Description

Winfract ver. 18.2 Here's the first sphere I ever made. I used the 3d/spherical projection utility that was built into Winfract and, I assume, Fractint. Had this big idea, once, to make a sphere for each of the planets and major moons in the solar system. A few years later I saw Samuel Monnier's "Saturn" and "Mars Impact" images using UF2 and slinked away all hangdog and shaking my head - lol Now THOSE were some cool fractal planets. I reckon they can be found in the UF archives for like 1998 or 99 - check 'em out if you've never seen them - amazing stuff! Thanks for stopping by! Rick

This one is really interesting as well, some very complicated geometry. It's nice to see how your spheres have progressed over the last decade! I first did fractals around the '92 or so using a shareware program that I can't remember the name of on a 486sx25. It would take hours to render just about anything and I gave up on fractals for a decade!

Very interesting, the genesis of the advanced sphere work you posted yesterday...you've come a long way! i'm glad you are posting these retro fractals, it really gives a sense of how it's all progressed.

Still a fantastic image, Rick! Great to see some of your older stuff. Who around here doesn't have a few fractal planets tucked away somewhere?
