I used an old grainy photo as a reference for this drawing. In the original photo Nietzsche's chin was resting on his hand. If you want to see the original photo just search for it on Google.
2B and 4B pencils on 80lb paper.

i found it noteworthy that in your interpretation his eyes are moving towards an expression similar to that of Hitler's - strange?

I must clear this up in light of gwfa's comment....Nietzsche was unfairly connected to the Nazi's. His last publication "Will To Power" was changed and edited by his sister after his death - thus giving Nietzsche a bad rap. The Nazi's apparently read his works, but if one studies Nietzsche closely it is impossible to fathom that Nietzsche would have tolerated the holocaust. If anyone wants to debate me on this I will gladly do so.

His moustache is very reminiscent of those old 1920's photos, because of the softness. The darkshades you used to emphasize the nose could be a little less strong, meaning that maybe you could use just a bit more shadow to make the nose appear more round and thus 3D. His hair is more abstracted than it is realistic. It's not a bad thing, but it looks non-1920ish.

I must mention that when I scannned this I had to scan it twice because it was too big. I then put it together in photoshop. I noticed that on some monitors a slight line is noticable.

I just noticed that my scanner vertically stretched my drawing by a considerable amount. I have remedied this in photoshop by "squishing" the image. With regards to accuracy, I noticed a few inconsistencies that I did not notice before. It's funny how the brain needs some rest before it can properly take inventory of the whole picture.
