"Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule."
Friedrich Nietzsche
I used an old grainy photo as a reference for this drawing. In the original photo Nietzsche's chin was resting on his hand. If you want to see the original photo just search for it on Google.

Expressive portrait! Superb artwork, Matt! And I like the title - very actual! ;-)

Splendid work and a really well chosen sentence! I like both. Didn't know he wrote this, this will probably help me to take the decision to open one of his books... Thanks for this!

reading for the third time his "Tragedy offspring". I like your homage :)

After having read a few comments, I must mention that anyone who claims Nietzsche to be "depressing" or "insane" misses the point completely; At least with regards to my own interpretation...I derive catharsis and solace from his words. I am truly inspired by his quest for the "truth" unhampered by bullshit.

Wonderful portrait, hair and moustache are very well done, you have set a mood with the eyes, starin, glarin, and just a hint of the need to hold power in his gaze, eccellent espressive work. Lina
