Some guy in the park showed me a neat trick. If you chase them with a camera, their instinct is to run for the nearest tree. But if you drop a peanut in their presence, their urge to get a free meal will overpower their urge to flee. (I'm kind of mad - For one of the peanuts I chucked, a bluejay swooped out of a tree, and gnabbed the thing so quickly that I wasn't able to get a photo. That would have been an awesome shot.)
