Well, Ken, I have to admit, very well done. I agree with the aforementioned view about the concept of Atmospheric Perspective. That is: as things recede into the distance, details, colors, etc., do tend to fade and combine, becoming less distinct. I think here too, the horizon line of the sea and the clouds/sky should be veiled in a light haze. Also, even withe the sea so calm, both ships would exhibit a small wake as the traverse through the water. As is there is no real sense of movement of the ships. Try increasing the water turbulance a little bit to show a wake. But other than these points, a very good effort. DeeVee is right, it does looks similar to an old 17th century maritime master's work.

Thanks for the crits on the right side horizon folks. I have somewhat fixed it I hope and will keep it in mind for future efforts!

Very nice, especially the use of lighting and the composition. However, with the wind as calm as it seems to be, the sails would be sagging - I'd either up the turbulence and lean the ships over a bit (because their sails are catching the wind) or sag the sails.

Visually masterful Ken! True, there some aspects of using alpha planes that are simply unavoidable, bu to me, the technical details of reality hold no merit in regard to the quality of true art. After all, the background of the "Mona Lisa" is horridly off and it is revered as one of the finest works of art ever produced. What you have produced here is truly quality art and I am proud to have been even a small part of it. This is definately worthy of a vote :-)
