Description
"Pondering Indecision"
By David J. Reid
aka "Shardz"
Software Used: Poser 5, Vue Esprit 5, Photoshop CS
I believe my style of scenes sharing Poser and Vue 5 have reached an untimely demise...or perhaps not (Pun on title). Pros - My nights have been lavishly furnished with warmth due to the nature of my Pentium 4 machine rendering these scenes at full capacity all evening. Cons - 6 to 8 hour render times in Vue utilizing atmospheric global and/or radiosity settings is taking up way too much time, especially in previews.
I wanted to go further with this scene and do more, I even thought about alpha planes for the
background *cough*. But at last, I decided not to decide furthermore and simply let the scene go 'as is' after 2 solid days of effort and time. Not to mention a bloated power bill and lost hair.
When you select a category here to upload, it states afterward how you should try to utilize that platform and utilize it to full capacity as a challenge. Now...I have a fairly modest machine (P4 2.4 gHz, 512, GForce 5200), my networked machine isn't really fast enough as a multi-threaded network renderer. Thus, I need to either change my style, my chosen graphics platform(s), or try to rent a monkey and give the old organ grinder career a chance.
I prefer Vue 5 over Bryce 5 now (converting as a Bryce user from the start), but have found that my tastes exceed my given technology here at the homestead. My next scene was to be another in the series of 'Babe meets paradise' genre, and really goes beyond anything I have done to date...but for an 800x600 image it was taking 11+ hours to render. Preview renders were taking 10 mins. I threw in the towel with that one (Yes, I made a decision). Stepping off the artistic (or should I say 'technical') soapbox, I present you with Nova in Vue Esprit 5 in all her illustrious beauty. She is contemplating, she is thinking, she is wondering...what ever happened to canvas...and is that option available for PC?
Stats: This Vue 5 image rendered at 800x600 took 8.4 hours with global illumination and atmospheric effects on, 908k polygons, 3 spotlights plus the 'sun', combined Nova figure with clothes was about 300k polygons (those darn panties!), my average room temperature was about 78f (25.5c) during the render and I slept well.
Comment Effects: Everyone has their way of doing things, their own style, comfort level, their goals, etc. I have a vision of pure 3D with full atmospheric, botanic, animation of all elements, along with the human condition that we all experience. I wish to convey beauty within simplicity and complexity...to push the envelope at my level. I must say that I check out the artists who comment on my works, and I am so very impressed with their art and efforts that I am simply amazed and return to my original thoughts of being indecisive as to how to present my creative dreams. But there is always tomorrow...
I thank you for viewing, for reading, and for sharing with me. Thank all of you for your warm, honest, and very welcomed comments. Bless you all, and we shall get thru this together as one huge learning curve against life. =)

Indeed, we could all use a render farm to squeeze out the processor-intensive renders while we work on another machine. That said, I think the hours your machine chewed up on this were worthwhile -- the lighting is gorgeous! Excellent picture! Eight and a half hours really isn't all that long if you hit the render button right before you go to sleep. :D

Stunning work, with very effective lighting. Very well done indeed! Steve :o)

I think that you are more than an artist is a creator. Me not you of technique but I see that it is very worked until the but small detail. The landscape could be located in the high Egypt or in Sudan. The model is beautiful although in this case she would be of darker skin. But so that it serves the fantasy and the imagination if it is not to dream ?

Truly amazing - love that texture on the fantasy wrap as well as the sweeping landscape S the combination makes for a truly stunning scene S Outstanding!
