This is among the most beautiful flower photographs that I have ever seen! The flowers are so nicely offset by the dark background twigs and dirt, and even a hidden bees. It is an adventure to explore this picture, after you get over the initial rush of seeing these illuminated wonders. I'm curious as to how you accomplished this, because I, and probably many others, would like to learn from you. The only way I could think of would be to place lights behind the flowers, and then to emphasize the colors and the ribs through digital processing.

thank you for the wonderful comments! Nothing was done while taking the photograph - just natural lighting in a flower bed next to my house (is my wife the real artist here?) Anyway, post processing took place in Photoshop CS. This was done using three layers. The original photo on the bottom layer. Layer 2 just above original is a heavily blurred copy of the original however set at a blend mode of "Screen" Layer 3 (top layer) is also a heavily blurred copy of the original however set at a blend mode of "Hard Light" Further refinement came from erasing portions of the "Screen" Layer to bring the details back into play. This is a technique I developed myself (although I am sure others have similar). It is very simple to do. Hope this answers your question. If you have more please feel free to ask 4thorder@4thorder.us Thanks!!
