Description

Carrie struggled to focus. Morgan kept creeping into her thoughts. Who was going to watch over and protect the kid now? She had to force these thoughts out of the way. She needed to concentrate all her attention on the creep in front of her if she were to have any chance of surviving. Though that chance was all but non-existent. Still, as long as she breathed, she would not give up or give in. A movement above, on the catwalk, caught her attention for a split second. Her eyes flicked up then back to the gunman. Someone was up there. But, no time to think of that, now. She watched for a tale-tell sign. The guy was still running his mouth and she wished he would just shut up and get on with it. Then she saw it. His weight shifted and his muscles tensed. It was time. As his hand came up, Carrie twisted and pitched backward. A scream came from above. The gunman's head jerked and the gun erupted. She felt a burning across her right shoulder and heard the bullet whistle by. The gunman, in trying to find the source of the scream, had pulled his shot wide. As she crashed to the floor, Carrie made a mental note to thank the screamer for saving her life. Carrie rolled, twisted, and came to a her feet, ready to attack. It wasn't necessary. The person from the catwalk was completely manhandling the gunman. Carrie was surprised to see it was a female. The gunman was almost twice her size, but she moved like lightning and made short work of the thug. He crumpled to the floor in a heap. The woman did something to the cane-like thing she held and a blade snapped out. Carrie gasped. It was Morgan! That fiery, furious woman was her kid sister Morgan. Morgan stepped up to the prone figure and raised the blade, ready to plunge it into his chest. "If you do, you will be no better then him", Carrie said. Morgan hesitated and looked over at Carrie. Her hands shook slightly, but she regained her composure quickly. "He. No better then he, not him", she responded. The blade snapped out of sight. The two looked at each other for several seconds the raced into each others arms. Tears filled Carrie's eyes as she whispered, "Thank you, Morgan. You saved my life." She saw the tears in Morgan's eyes as she looked up and said, "Anytime, Sis. Just don't make a habit of it." They burst into tearful laughter.
