Description

Got a new toy for Christmas and got to try it out tonight for the first time! The seeing was horrible, but I'm happy with the result. Hopefully I'll have a lot better stuff soon!

Shooting celestial objects is not easy and this is an impressive example of details to be seen! A very happy new year with lots of new challenges!

Fabulous pic - well done. How did you take it then ?

It was taken through a 9 1/4 inch telescope using a webcam type device that captures a video of the object (Saturn in this case). The software then breaks down the video into single frames. It then "stacks" the frames together - this results in a much better signal to noise ratio thereby bringing out more detail than in a single frame. This picture is most likely towards the lower end of the quality achieveable with this device. It was very humid last night and Saturn had just cleared my roof, so all the heat disturbing the air didn't help. In addition to that, it was rather windy - bad news for imaging :-) Anyway, I'm very happy with my first shot with it and hopefully I'll have some much better stuff soon! Thanks to all for the comments and rankings! Happy, safe, and prosperous new year to all.

Absolutely Fascinating! It is amazing what new camera and computer technology can achieve now. I remember the first time I saw Saturn's rings in a backyard telescope, it changes your perspective. So different than seeing pictures in a book. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Not bad for bad seeing. Better than anything that I have ever come up with
