Description

Here is an image I am doing for the cgtalk space opera contest. I am almost done, let me know your comments and crits. Especially if you think something should be changed , I have roughly a week left to make changes. Dont know how much energy I have left to put in this image though. Hope you like it. Mike

Blimey! This is amazing Mike. A great picture. You solved the pose for your soldier admirably and he provides just the right amount of foreground interest. Good luck!

Wonderful work! Great detail and concept. There's even an aiming device on the rocket launcher! And how did you do those cool clouds?

Fun stuff Mike! You might try emphasising the target of the hand-held missle launcher a little more using light and darks. Right now there is so much to look at, it's unclear to my eye what the focus should be. Maybe a little more distance blurring - just to help the eye focus on the forground? Pretty cool.

Love the textures and mats. A little busy for my taste, but excellent work all the same.

Thanks for the comments guys. Ed: The clouds are a painted tmap for the most part, the planets were 3d models composited with the sky tmap. Mark:Thanks for the crit, the focus I had in mind while creating was the entire battle scene, then the enemy attack on the closest Large Ground Mining platform, then the soldier firing the shoulder rocket at the mother ship in the sky. Maybe thats why it looks chaotic, I will think about trying to focus the viewers eye more.

Great scene! I love the clouds(like the world of painting) and bright colors. This is a scene of the fight. Nevertheless, I feel calm image. Cheers!

Great scene, I could look at this for hours there is so much going on. My only crit would be the soldier, the pose looks to relaxed like looking through a telescope rather than the recoil of a rocket launcher. Very illustrative feel to the image, great work. Good luck with the contest and meeting your deadline.

First, let me say : "I could never touch this". It's awesome! Now,viewing it with my most critical eye, I think the smoke from the crash provides the wrong "timing cue". Here, I feel we have a "blitz" attack...a matter of seconds, a minute "tops". That smoke suggests a much older crash, as if things have calmed down over a longer time. I think it might be good to have it rise at more of an angle, be broader at the point of impact, and not rise quite so high. It's a small thing, But you deserve to win,and this is the only thing I see that looks a little "off". Great work!

Great scene. The following comments are intended to help - not as a criticism. Check on the way the soldier's hands are holding the gun - I think his right hand should be the closest to his shoulder. Craft on far left should be moved down so that it doesn't just "touch" the hills in the background. Moons should blend into the colour of the sky.
