Description

When I can look so far my mind is going to act funny (even funnier than you know me! ;). I get crazy and start to shoot and shoot. Why? I dunno. Must be some wiring up there... *taps on head* I started to zoom in and what do I find? Remember Calming Down 7? On a distance of approximately 23 km (14 miles) I could see (from left to right) Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau (upper picture). And now, standing on the Grand Ballon we can see them again, on a distance of approximately 173 km (108 miles)! The perspective is different her and between Eiger and Mönch we can see now the Grünhorn too, lying close behind the Mönch and invisible if you're too close (23 km!!!) to these mountains! Minolta X-700 (Fuji Sensia 100, upper: 70 &, lower: 300 mm & 2X TC) Thanks for your attention and your always valuable comments

Yes, mountains do offer interesting things again and again. Shot looks like done from an aeroplane. Looks great.

Unlike the ear the eye has no real limit to seeing. Terrestially even the speed of light is no impediment except for very short events. Here infinity perspective makes the mountains soft. Lovely in their rising above the clouds.

Jan, I love it when your mind goes a little funny, you come up with the greatest things! Great comparison shot between the two, amazing that you could see them so far off. Now, if you could only fly.... ;) Well done!

Wow, wow, this is incredible !!. Both your photographs as well as your story. Makes you wonder what the limitations of human sight are. We more or less decided to go back to the Alsace nest summer. Seeing this it is almost sure we must go back to this region we visited much too long ago.
