Description

Night of the Daleks ------------------- Created: September 2003 Created with: - Poser v4.03 - Vue d'Esprit v4.1 (and rendered in) ========================= About: ------ This image was constructed using POSER components which were then imported into VUE. NOTE: If you don't know anything about the scifi British TV series Doctor Who then the details of this image may not mean much to you. ;-) I wanted my image to be ambiguous. - Is the Tardis arriving (and into danger), or have they escaped the dreaded Daleks just in the nick of time? Do they know the Daleks are there? I didn't want to do a brightly lit Tardis scene because there's no fearful expectations in that. I even toned down the image title text so that it doesn't take your eyes too far away from the main elements. ========================= The Tardis: ----------- The texture map that comes with the Tardis is quite simple and plain. (it's a 2048x2048 27k .GIF file.) - But it's a good start to make your own Tardis texture as I did. I spent ages (because I'd never done it before) making a dirtied and more interesting looking texture map for the Tardis. - Most of which you can't notice in this image!) ;-) But since I'll probably be making more Tardis pictures in the future, my work isn't for nothing. The "Dream1" Poser scene: ------------------------- This is a nice full scene (a 'stage' setpiece with no sides or top) that simply imported straight into VUE out of the downloaded .ZIP file because it was a .PZ3 file. You may very well have seen this bright cheerful scene in other POSER user's renders but for my image it serves my purpose very well as if it's a dungeon or some other pit of foreboding. ;-) I scaled up Dream1 in VUE but that's all I've done to it. The Dalek (mark 4): ------------------- A POSER Dalek model that I simply exported out of POSER and imported into VUE. - I didn't alter anything about it because I wanted it to remain totally unseen except for it's shadow. The Dalek is to the left of the camera and is so close that a part of it was poking into the camera scene. So I nudged the camera a bit to the right in order to keep the shadow but lose the sight of the actual Dalek. I spent AGES experimenting with lights and shadows in order to get the Dalek shadow just where I want it. - I'm still not 100% satisfied with the Dalek shadow but it was a compromise because if I altered things to much to favour the Dalek shadow then the look of the entire scene changed away from what I wanted. The light falling upon the Tardis from above which looks like a grill is simply a light gel applied to a spotlight. - I just like the look it gives things as if the Tardis is contained in an environment. - Besides, I've always liked that look since Star Trek: DS9. :-) The blue light atop the Tardis is a VUE point light with flare attributes by me to give it a bit of a look as if the Tardis is active. - It brings the scene to life. The entire VUE scene consists of a number of spotlights that show what's what. There's no visible sunlight at all. Z. Anytime I see the word "Dalek" I have to do the throat thing and say "Exterminate, exterminate" :) Great work on the TARDIS and I like the shadow of the Dalek :)

Nice, atmospheric work. I'd type more, but it's difficult to reach the keyboard from here behind the settee ... ... :-)

Yes! I got hooked on the crazy show when it was shown here (USA) in the 80's. Very nice scene, and the subtle lighting and shadows enhance the atmosphere greatly.
