Description

An attempt to do something different in a way, although it's a technique I've touched upon before at times. I just went into Painter and started roughly doodling with one of the acrylic brushes while deliberately thinking of something else as much as possible to try and half-distract myself out of the "usual" courses of action. I was just thinking of the words "fun" and "love" while making the marks, without any censorship via the Undo key, just as if it were real paint on paper. I don't know how successful I was at breaking out of the normal strokes, but anyway, once some kind of form had taken shape I spent the rest of the time consciously developing it with Overlay layers (and plenty of Undos!) No Photoshop this time, this is 100% Painter... Thank you for taking a look and your feedback is much appreciated :-)

that's really cool. the colour junkie in me says 'colour it' but it's probably better in the colurs it has and maybe just smudging is needed ? :)

Great technique for releasing raw ideas. These textures make a refreshing change from your usual gloss. Is this abstract solid a map of your mental state at the time?(!), again I think that you could go further in this direction with real sculpture. Btw, like your idea for another collab. work. Another for our EC project portfolio. I'll see what I can come up with to start the ball rolling... :-)

And I love it!! The first thing I saw was an ear and then, I have no idea but I really like it nonetheless! Strangely, I love that green and green is definitely not one of my fav color but it goes so well with the drawing here! Looks like a weird object (maybe some kind of instrument from prehistoric times) made with ivory! Very cool, yep!

i really like this one. and as stated above, it's quite a change from your usual look. on first glance i immediately saw an ear, then a beckoning hand. i like artwork that changes on you like that.

I prefer to look at this as purely abstract & I love the strong sense of form, depth & movement you achieved, it does have a very sculptural & intuitive feel to it, great excercise Jim ; )

Killer work Jim. This 'excercise' of yours blows away most of the stuff that is posted around here (and that is NOT meant to be a knock against everyone else). Your colors on this one are spot on... it really makes me wonder how it would look in a frame.

The form is beautiful. I don't really think the colors matter that much because the form is so strong. As already stated it would make a great sculpture!! I could imagine it sitting on a grass lawn outside of a building, large enough for several people to sit on it and have their lunch in the sun. I think its great that your continuing to explore your subconscious through free drawing exercises, and even better that your willing to share them. Thanks alot!!!
