Description

Many years ago I took these photographs.. In fact it were photo slides but I converted them to what they are now. I think it is well known that our country has a history of fighting water. One of the methods to fight the water was to built mills on a circular dike and to sweep the water inside the dike out. More or less dry land was the result of that. This is basically what a polder was and still is. The Schermer is a relatively large 17th Century polder that is still famous about it's landscape. A great deal of mills, many of them built in the 17th and 18th Century, still exist and sometimes it really looks like time stood still. It is a great place to be.Many visitors of the city of Amsterdam are not aware of the fact that 20 kilometers North this wonder of Dutch craftman ship still remains.
