Description
Tomorrow, the Huygens space probe will desend through the thick orange clouds of Saturn's moon Titan...
I took this picture at 10 p.m. last night during the snowstorm.
This is an untouched picture there is no post work performed here except for the frame and text.
The effect is caused by light from the ground reflecting off of the suspended snowflakes in the air.
This is a 10 second exposure with the Nikon coolpix 4300 set to 400 ASA.
Is this what Saturn's moon Titan looks like?
We may find out Friday when pictures from the space probe are transmitted back to Earth.
Icy Mountains?...
Liquid Methane Seas?...
Hot Lightning?...
No one knows, YET...
But we do know, Titan is huge, It is bigger than the planet Mercury, and has an atmosphere that is three times larger than here on Earth. The air on Titan is filled with organic compounds, some of these molecules are the building blocks of life.
There will be live TV coverage from the NASA.gov web site. And a TV special at 9 p.m. Eastern time on the science channel to analyze the results.
Today Saturn is only 750 million miles from Earth, the closest we get to the ringed planet all year long. If you step outside at 7:30 p.m. and look East Saturn is very easy to find, and if you have binoculars or a small telescope, You should be able to see Saturns rings and its moons orbiting the planet. The alignment is so perfect tonight that if you were standing on Saturns surface, You would see the Earth transiting the sun.
Keep looking up!
Thank you for taking the time to stop at my picture, and I always look forward to reading your comments.
Please leave a whole bunch :)

Interesting effect and striking image. I would not have believed you didn't colorize it if not for your explanation. Great capture!

Thank you for the comments, I will be posting more pictures of this series in the future, that will show more of this Suspended Snowflake Reflection Effect. "SSRE". Also, be ready for displays of the Aurora borealis over the next few days. Sun spot 720 has erupted from just being visible 48 hours ago to a giant at least five times larger than our planet Earth! This will most likely cause a severe solar flare.Randy,
