See that little Peninsula, I almost lost my life picking Opihi way back then. I should have kept my eyes on the ocean, lol. Maika'i....Aloha

I can only imagine how hot that black sand can get. And to go bareassed on it? Forget it. And I've heard about those ripcurrents too. My brother almost got pulled out by one when he vacationed there last year. But I don't mind watching the sunbathers... ;) Hey, wonderful photo and cool trivia bit.

We have dangerous rips at a lot of our beaches too, heaps of people drown, and thats with lifesavers patrolling the beach! The black beaches are unusual but very beautiful, a lovely view of the bay. Not sure if sunbathing nude is a good idea with black sand....nothing worse than sand getting everywhere, but other than that, I wouldnt want to be walking around with patches of black sand stuck to me lol.

This is the way I imagine the beaches of the islands...the black sands caused by centuries of volcanic eruptions flowing to the waters edge, in a land of paradise...big aloha sigh!!
