Description
Mauna Kea Silversword Plant: This plant was federally listed as endangered species in 1986. When man introduced the Feral sheep, goats, and the mouflon sheep for sport hunting to the island, it had reduced the number of plants because of the animals grazing and trampling. Eventually these animals was removed from the Silversword Reserve. Efforts are made to increase the Silversword population. This picture was taken behind the visitors center in a fenced up area of Mauna Kea. Aloha and thank you for viewing.
