Description

Ultrafractal 3.02 - 168 layers (ouch! lol) I was in the middle of changing direction for a bit into more "fractal" looking images when this one just grabbed me by the short hairs for 4 days and "happened". I rarely start anything with an idea where it's going so they just end up where they drag me. :?) This one has a sorta Jules Verne or a Pre-Cambrian primordial life vibe. I recently read a book named "Rare Earth" written by an astrophysicist and a biochemist(?) that made a really strong argument for the theory that, though rudimentary life like bacteria and the like are surely common in the universe/galaxy - due to the amazing luck (or divine design) involved in life surviving 10 global mass extinctions and that the Earth is situated smack in the calmest region between spiral arms in the Milky Way, the occurance of higher lifeforms like animals and people on other planets is most likely extremely rare. Planets in denser areas of our galaxy get hammered with the energy of nearby supernovae way too often that would kill all life. (remember the supernova in the late 90's/early 00's that knocked out a number of satellites? It was 20,000 lightyears away) Higher life on our own planet has survived very narrowly in the last 4 billion years. Kinda gets you thinking in a new way how precious and rare humanity is and the need for us to somehow find better ways to get along as a species - especially in light of the recent tsunami tragedy. Thanks for stopping by and for the wonderful encouragement you've given me on my previous stuff! (sorry for the dry "science class" above - lol)

Wonderful work! So many layers, way more than I've ever used in any one image. I think there is other intelligent life in the universe. As Carl Sagan said, with billions and billions of galaxies, each containing billions of stars, odds are intellegent life got a chance to evolve somewhere besides earth. But the distances are so vast, we'll probably never meet them...

One of the most fun things about your images (apart from the obvious talent and patience it takes to make such a beauty) is looking - really looking for the details. I love the hydra-like thingies all over the place - and the other abundant aquatic features. You've kept a wonderful palette, and haven't lost focus of your vision. Eight tentacles up!!!!

Wow, I guess this is a more fractal looking image from you. The plant world is made from the fractal principle, or better the fractal principle is a translation of the laws of life. Anyway, graet job.

Hey Rick , your image has so many fine details that are each worthy of the most praiseworthy of comments. Certainly , the diversity of marine lifeforms have been incredibly well illustrated using your mastery and creativity apropos fractal art ! I particularly adore that fantastic light brown spiral , the seaweed , oxygen bubbles , and the spherical organisms . The wonderful lifeforms are so clear in the crystal waters : outstanding work ............ Mike
