Description
"Sinistra's plan was to bring Lucistra out of exile to act as a decoy. She would go with the Champion when she next appeared, find her hideout, and bring back all the Vixens that had left the Temple. I protested strongly against this idea, but Sinistra would not listen to reason. I returned to my quarters, angry and upset. I had not seen Lucistra since she murdered Suzette, and I was not looking forward to the occasion.
"The next morning I rose early and rallied my men. I informed them of Lucistra's return, and assigned each of them two Vixens to watch over for as long as Lucistra remained in the Temple. I was not willing to let her harm any more of the girls. I watched over Tracy and Mandy myself.
"Nervous anticipation was heavy in the air. News spread quickly that Lucistra was coming, and many were fearful of what might happen. Vixens clung together in tight groups, and never strayed far from the guards I had assigned to them. Then, around mid-afternoon, with no fanfare or commotion, Lucistra arrived.
"She did not look at or acknowledge a single person, not even her mother. She simply marched into a dark corner of the Grand Hall, took a seat, and waited. She spoke to no-one. The room fell silent.
"That's pretty much how things remained for the next two nights; Lucistra sitting in the corner of the enormous room, brooding and waiting, the rest of us giving her a wide berth. Fear among the Vixens was growing. We were all uncomfortable, trying to go about our normal business while under Lucistra's baleful gaze. Partly to address our fears, and partly to quell her own, Sinistra took me aside and asked me to follow Lucistra when the time came. I was to remain unseen at a safe distance, but to ensure the 'kidnapped' Vixens got back to the Temple safely. She knew as well as I did that the girls were in more danger in the company of Lucistra than they were in the company of this mysterious Champion.
"But we had to wait for The Champion to show up first. And, on the third night, she did.
"She strode confidently into the Grand Hall just before sunrise. To her credit, Lucistra performed her role masterfully. She crept out of the shadows and ran to the shiny-suited Champion, crying and begging to be rescued from that terrible place. The Champion bought her story, and they left.
""Here we go," I thought to myself, and set off after them..."
